IBM have launched the System Storage DS3950 Express Models and EXP395 Express Expansion Unit to add to their existing line up of flexible, scalable & high performing storage offerings

IBM System Storage DS3950 Express Disk System expands IBM's disk storage offerings that are specifically designed to help address midrange or departmental storage requirements.

The System Storage DS3950 Express Models are available, currently in two versions the 94 and 98, with storage expansion provided via the EXP395 Express Expansion Units. RAID levels 0, 1, 3, 5, 6 & 10 are supported with the solution being able to scale up to 112TB of physical storage. Individually, the DS3950 and EXP395 have an internal physical storage capacity of up to 16TB, using 1TB SATA enhanced disk drives or up to 9.6TB using 600GB Fiber Channel drives.

Intermixing of SATA and FC drives within enclosures is supported and adds flexibility to these models.

The DS3950 Model 98 not only supports connectivity to the SAN-fabric using 8Gbps FC links but also offers 1Gbps iSCSI connectivity for added versatility.

DS3950 Models 94 and 98 are packaged in 3U rack-mountable enclosures with dual-active RAID controllers, come with Windows host kit and two storage partitions enabled, have either 2 GB or 4 GB cache memory (1 GB or 2 GB per RAID controller) depending on the model. The EXP395 Expansion Unit is a high-capacity 16-drive bay unit packaged in a 3U rack-mountable enclosure. The DS3950 Models 94 and 98 can attach up to six EXP395 Expansion Units, providing modular and highly scalable storage solutions that range up to 112 TB physical storage capacity.
